Section 1
REFR will maintain a data base for the registration of all qualifying cats.
Section 2
Registration data on each cat will include the three-letter breed code for each cat and the color of the cat.
Section 3
Registration data on each cat will specify if the cat belongs to the Stud Book (SB) registry or the Foundation Book (FB) registry. The Foundation Book registry indicates that one or more parents within a three-generation pedigree are not from the acceptable breed or breed group of the registered cat. A designation of FB1 indicates that one or both parents are not within the recognized breed or breed group. A designation of FB2 indicates that one or more grandparents are not within the recognized breed or breed group. A designation of FB3 indicates that one or more great grandparents are not within the recognized breed or breed group.
Section 4
The birthdate of each cat will be incorporated into the registration number by using eight digits. The first two designate the month of birth, the second two designate the day of birth, and the last four digits designate the year of birth.
Prior to January 1, 2000, birth dates were designated by six digits. The first two designated the month of birth, the second two designated the day of birth, and the last two digits designated the year of birth.
Section 5
Following the birthdate is a sequence of three numbers which guarantees unique numbers for cats with identical birth dates.
Section 6
All cats must have a designated sex, color, and breed. Optionally, each stud book or foundation book cat may have certain genetic codes included in the registration number. For example, long legs (LL) or short legs (SL) may be recorded for Munchkin kittens; and long tail (LT) or short tail (ST) may be recorded for American Bobtails.
Section 7
The sire and dam of each stud book cat will be recorded, along with their registration numbers. The sire and dam of each foundation book cat will be recorded, if available, along with their registration numbers
Section 8
The breeder of the cat and the owner of he cat will be recorded.
Section 9
The Stud Book Registry is used for a cat whose sire and dam appear in the stud book registry of REFR or of another registry or for any cat who does not have a different breed or breed group appearing within a three-generation pedigree.
